This course is an introductory course to Entrepreneurship study. The design and flow of the course are aimed at providing knowledge for entrepreneurial mind-set that is important to achieving success in innovative business creation.
Objectives
- Develop Entrepreneurial Thinking and Creativity
Equip students with an entrepreneurial mindset and creative problem-solving skills necessary for identifying opportunities and creating innovative solutions. - Introduce Practical Business Creation Skills
Provide hands-on knowledge and tools for starting and managing a business, including business planning, feasibility analysis, and financial management. - Promote Localized and Contextualized Entrepreneurship
Highlight the unique opportunities and challenges in the Nigerian entrepreneurial environment, focusing on innovation in key sectors such as agriculture, technology, and e-commerce. - Foster Innovation and Technology Integration
Enable students to understand the role of innovation and technological tools in business creation and growth, including intellectual property protection and digital marketing. - Encourage Social Responsibility and Sustainability
Develop awareness of social entrepreneurship and sustainable practices for addressing societal challenges while achieving business success. - Enhance Soft Skills for Entrepreneurial Success

Course Content

- Entrepreneurial Mindset and Culture: Characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, with emphasis on creativity and resilience.
- Case Studies of Nigerian Entrepreneurs: Interactive biographical studies using videos and guest lectures.
Module 2: Exploring the Nigerian Business Environment
- Understanding the Business Ecosystem: Political, legal, socio-cultural, economic, and technological factors affecting businesses in Nigeria.
- Opportunity Identification and Threat Analysis: Tools for identifying viable business opportunities.
- Practical Feasibility Studies: Conducting market research and analyzing business ideas.
- Legal and Ethical Considerations: Business registration, intellectual property rights, and ethics.
Module 3: Creativity, Innovation, and Intellectual Property
- Creativity in Business: Strategies for developing and applying creative ideas.
- Intellectual Property Rights: Overview of copyright laws, trademarks, and patents in Nigeria.
- Protecting Innovations: Practical steps to safeguard original ideas and products.
Module 4: Entrepreneurial Finance
- Startup Financing: Estimating startup costs and identifying funding sources (personal savings, venture capital, grants, etc.).
- Financial Management: Break-even analysis, bookkeeping, and financial planning.
- Digital Tools for Finance: Introduction to software and apps for managing business finances.
Module 5: Entrepreneurial Marketing and E-Commerce
- Marketing Strategies for Growth: Traditional and digital marketing techniques tailored for small businesses.
- Digital Marketing Tools: Hands-on training on social media marketing, SEO, and email marketing.
- Negotiation and Business Communication: Developing persuasive and professional communication skills.
Module 6: Innovation and Technology in Business
- Types and Nature of Innovation: Product, process, and service innovations.
- Managing Technological Change: Adapting to and leveraging technological advancements.

Assessment
- Continuous Assessment (40%)
Focuses on evaluating students’ understanding and application of concepts throughout the semester.

- Class Participation and Engagement (10%)
- Active participation in class discussions, group activities, and case study analyses.
- Contributions during guest lectures or field visits.
- Quizzes and Tests (10%)
- Short quizzes or tests on key concepts, theories, and local entrepreneurial examples.
- Group Assignments and Presentations (10%)
- Group tasks like analyzing business opportunities or creating feasibility reports.
- Presentations on case studies or innovative business ideas.
- Bonus Marks (10%)
- Participation in extracurricular entrepreneurial activities, such as pitch competitions or entrepreneurship club events.
- Volunteering for community-based projects that align with social entrepreneurship.
- Practical Assessment (30%)
Emphasizes hands-on application of knowledge.
Components:
- Business Plan Development (15%)
- Students develop a comprehensive business plan, including market analysis, financial projections, and innovation strategies.
- Graded on feasibility, creativity, and presentation.
- Innovation Challenge or Prototype (15%)
- Students identify a local problem, propose an innovative solution, and create a prototype or concept.
- Focus on creativity, practicality, and alignment with societal needs.
- Final Examination (30%)
Assesses overall understanding and integration of the course material.
Format:
- Part A: Multiple Choice and Short Answer Questions (10%)
- Tests foundational knowledge, key theories, and terminologies.
- Part B: Case Study Analysis (10%)
- Students analyze a real or hypothetical entrepreneurial scenario and provide solutions.
- Part C: Essay/Problem-Solving Question (10%)
- Open-ended question requiring students to propose a strategy for starting or growing a business.
NB: Any students without 70% Attendance will NOT be assessed . Therefore taking attendance for each Contact using the Provided Template is compulsory.
